Kirsten and Viviane

Kirsten would later claim it was the heat (...)

This peculiar summer, in which even at midnight warm air still flowed through the open window. In which the city seemed slower, nights lasted longer and one at some point no longer knew whether one was still awake or already dreamed.

Viviane would contradict her every time.

"It wasn’t the heat."

"Then what?"

You. You make me horny!

It all started out completely unspectacular:

Two adult women. Two friends. A summer evening. Music from a small Bluetooth box, a broken bottle of wine and this conversation that eventually became more personal than both had planned.

They were talking about men. About relationships. About bad dates, fake orgasms and good excuses. About masturbation and tails.

And at some point we talk about women.

"Have you ever kissed a woman?" asked Viviane.

Kirsten looked at her.

One second too long.

"No."

Viviane smiled.

"Neither do I."

After that, one of them could have laughed.

None did.

23:47

It created this special kind of silence, in which suddenly every detail becomes important.

Vivianes bare feet on the floor. Kirsten’s hand next to hers. The smell of sunscreen, warm skin and summer night.

Her shoulders almost touched.

Almost.

Viviane looked at Kirsten.

"Can I?"

Kirsten did not respond immediately. She was only a little closer.

That was enough.

The first kiss was cautious. Almost surprisingly soft. Her lips touched briefly and detached again.

They both looked at each other.

Then they kissed again.

This time longer.

Kirsten laid her hand on Viviane’s face, brushing her thumb over her cheek. Viviane drew her closer to herself. The cautious experiment became a passionate kiss, curious and intense, her tongues touched, and for a few seconds everything outside this room seemed completely irrelevant.

When they broke up, Kirsten had to laugh.

"Okay."

"Okay good or okay bad?"

Kirsten moved Viviane back to himself.

That answered the question.

The most dangerous moment is sometimes not the first kiss. But the second – because then you know that the first was not a mistake.

Curiosity

They had not agreed any rules before.

Maybe that was the reason why everything felt so immediate.

Viviane slowly brushed Kirsten through her hair. Kirsten’s fingertips wandered over her neck and shoulders. They carefully explored the vicinity of the others, stopping and looking at each other.

It was less a question of it, what would happen.

Rather, whether the other wanted it as well.

And each time, the answer was the same.

Another kiss.

One more touch.

A little closer.

The initial nervousness disappeared. What remained was a mixture of tenderness, familiarity and an intensity that had surprised both.

Later they were next to each other.

Kirsten stared at the ceiling.

Somehow that wasn’t planned. ‘

Viviane turned to her.

"Does everything have to be planned?"

The next morning

At 9:16, Kirsten’s smartphone vibrated.

Viviane:
Do you regret it?

Kirsten read the message three times.

She typed an answer.

Deleted them.

Wrote a new one.

Deleted them too.

Finally, she just sent:

No.

Three points appeared.

Viviane:
Neither do I.

And underneath, a few seconds later:

When will we see each other again?

Kirsten had to smile.

Perhaps that was the real surprise of this summer.

Not that two girlfriends had kissed.

Not the curiosity.

Not even this new form of closeness.

But that neither of them wanted it to stay at this one evening.

Closing Punchline

First time. First kiss. NO LABELS’

Maybe you don’t have to know immediately what something means.

Sometimes it is enough to know that you want to feel it again. -
